Surf & Scuba Diving Options
Coastal
Spanish Institute has set up arrangements
with local surf and dive shops for our students. Study Spanish
at Coastal Spanish
in the morning and take surf or dive classes in the afternoons.
If you just need to rent a board, we have worked out preferred
rental rates for our students. You can rent by the hour, the
day, by the week or by the month. Please check with Sonia
at the office for more details.
Spanish &
Surf Program
20 Spanish lessons per week. 55 minutes per class. Max 6 students
per class. You also will receive surf lessons along with surf
board rental.
Duration: From 1 week up to a month. Your
choice.
9 levels: Beginner to advanced (for the Spanish
classes)
Description: This program consists of classes
with a maximum of 6 students per teacher. Courses are held
from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and are composed of a a combination
of conversational grammar and practical conversation and/or
lectures.
Surf Portion: Surf board
rental is included in the cost of the program. The first 2
weeks you will receive (in addition to the board rental) 6
hours of surf instruction. Surf classes are provided by local
surf professionals. On weeks 3 and 4 you will get one surf
trip to a location outside of Tamarindo (along with surf board
rental).
Surfing In Playa Tamarindo &
Surrounding Areas
Costa
Rica is world famous for the quality of waves along the Pacific
Coast. Surfers from around the world come to Costa Rica to
enjoy the waves and mingle with friendly locals. Costa Rica
has something for all levels of surfers. There are areas that
generate big waves for experienced surfers, while others are
great for novices. The Playa Tamarindo area is considered
by many to be the best spot in the country for surfing.
The waters off Costa Rica are warm and enjoyable.
The area around Playa Tamarindo offers surfing spots for surfers
of all skill levels. Playa Tamarindo itself enjoys consistent
swells throughout the year. Within walking distance from Coastal
Spanish a surfer can find six great surf breaks.
Popular surf spots in the area include:
Playa Tamarindo, Playa Langosta, Playa Grande, Playa Avellanas,
and Witch's Rock. None of these locations are more than 30-45
minutes away from Playa Tamarindo.
Scuba Diving & PADI Certification
In Playa Tamarindo
The
waters of the Pacific off the coast of Costa Rica are teeming
with exotic marine life. Throughout the region one has a choice
of a variety of excellent dive spots. In these teeming waters
you will have the chance to see an amazing variety of marine
life including: roosterfish, manta rays, red snapper, puffer
fish, schools of bait fish, live corals, star fish, and much
more!
You will find Playa Tamarindo to be a great
place to dive or learn how to dive. The atmosphere is friendly
and relaxed. Some of the courses available include certification
courses of all levels, open water diver, advanced open water
diver, dive master and more. If you don't want a full certification
you can also take what is known as a resort course which includes
some theory, a pool lesson and 1-2 dives.
