Rica is a popular destination for individuals interesting
in scuba diving or snorkeling. One of the best areas to go
scuba (or snorkeling) diving in Costa Rica is in the area
of Playa Tamarindo.
Coastal Spanish

in the warm and clear waters around Playa Tamarindo, Costa
Rica. Playa Tamarindo is home to a variety of dive shops,
and our staff at Coastal Spanish
are here to help you find the right scuba dive shop. Furthermore
we can also help to arrange your language course so that you
can take Spanish lessons in the mornings and go scuba diving
or snorkeling in the afternoons around the Playa Tamarindo
area. In the near future Coastal

begin to offer a Spanish and Scuba (PADI) Certification Course.
An Overview
Of Scuba Diving & Snorkeling Around Playa Tamarindo
Just north of Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica
is the Gulf of Papagayao. This gulf is home to an abundance
of scuba and snorkeling spots, most of which are just a short
distance from the shore area. The scuba and snorkeling dive
sites in this region of Costa Rica will allow you to see schools
of grunt, spotted eagle rays, stingrays, reef sharks, octopus,
star fish, corals, and many other species of marine life.
Occasionally you can see whale sharks as long as 35 ft long
along with the occasional, orcas, pilot whales, and mobula
rays.
Typically the visibility of these scuba dive
spots (snorkeling) in the area of Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica
will range from 30-50 ft. On a good day visibility may get
up to 70-80 ft. You will find a variety of volcanic rock formations
but little hard coral. Corals typically found around Playa
Tamarindo include soft corals, black coral and some orange
cup coral. The marine life that live in these waters can be
seen on both day and night dives.
For
something different, it is possible to book long range scuba
dive trips to either the Catalina or Bat Islands. December
through April tends to be the best months to go scuba diving
around the Catalina Islands. Marine life commonly seen in
this area includes mantas, sharks (white tip, bull, and tiger),
plus much more!
The trip to the Bat Islands tends to be a
rather relaxing cruise and is popular throughout the year.
However the best months to go are between March through November.
You will have the chance to see bull sharks, cow-nosed rays,
eagle rays, along with the ever present varieties of larger
schooling fish: rainbow runners, horse-eye jacks, spade fish,
pompano, snapper and wahoo.
The area around Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica
is a great place to go scuba diving and snorkeling. You are
